Knee Deep In The Dead
It takes a special band to write something as hilariously straightforward as “ Knee-Deep In The Dead”. And while non-neo thrash fans will likely roll their eyes at the goofy imagery and over the top lyricism, the rest of us are immediately intrigued. This album certainly isn’t Traitor’s first rodeo, and if you’re unfamiliar with their previous work, “ Knee-Deep In The Dead” serves as an appropriate introduction. This band is angry. Really angry. The most noticeable element of their music is the sheer barbaric screams that their singer emits on every song. He rips his throat in ways that make Mille from Kreator sound tame. Despite this, he manages to be complete understandable throughout the record.
While you’ll fail to sing along as brutally, “ Knee-Deep In The Dead” fortunately makes heavy use of gang vocals that are perfect for joining in the fun.In contrast to the loose vocal approach, the music is beyond tight. Though Traitor doesn’t reach any hyperspeeds, every song is within the appropriate boundaries of thrash tempos.

One of the best examples is “ Predator (Skinned Alive)” which jumps all over the map (even within the chorus) in terms of speed. This is easily amongst the most memorable songs on the record, along with the opener (“ Mad Dictator”) and the title track.Traitor is almost a summation of German thrash. Their ferocity fits in with the vicious approach of many of the country’s earliest thrash bands. Originality is limited throughout the record, but the riffs are potent enough to keep things interesting.
The one left-turn on the record is the band’s cover of “ Blitzkrieg Bop”, which, unsurprisingly is faster and more brutal than the original. Aside from this, “ Knee-Deep In The Dead” is a nearly 40-minute experience of very solid thrash metal driven by superb songwriting and cut-throat vocals.Be sure to check out and like Traitor on!Highlights“Mad Dictator”“Predator (Skinned Alive)”“Knee-Deep In The Dead”Final Rating4.3/5 or 86%.
